Meet Bapi Sing, a 23 years young local Snahtali man. His total landholding is less than an acre. He lives with his wife and two children of age 7 and 4. While making raised beds for our project, Bapi became interested our way of growing and decided to join the project. He is a very hardworking and soft-spoken person. We enjoy working with him. We have named his garden Chamak (Surprise)! It was a real surprise to us that Bapi decided to join us. We are even surprised to see his motivation in gardening. We are confindent he and his garden is going to bring us more positive surprises to us.
Meet Sujit Das, a 9th-standardth standard boy way mature for his age. We suspect his family’s struggle with poverty made him mature. Sujit was immediately on board when he hears the about our project ankur. Besides creating his own home garden, Sujit helps us in other gardens. For his service, we offer him a small “scholarship” that he uses for paying his tuition fees. We call Sujit’s garden Arombho (Beginning). Sujit participation signifies the start of integrating youth into our initiative, which we are very much looking forward to.
Meet Jharna Das who made a late entry to the project. She comes from a finically stable family. We saw an immense appetite in her for growing her own food, exactly the kind of people we are looking for. Jharna is an outgoing woman who is part of many self-help group. It is her leadership quality we would like to put to use to bring more people on board. We named Jharna’s garden Udyam (which means Positive Energy ) after being impressed with Jharna’s energy.
Suvendhu, a 27-year young enthusiastic man is our project assistant. Beside looking after the other garden Suvendhu along with our founder Biman is creating a garden. He is an ardent nature lover with quite some knowledge of growing which was gathered from his both grandparents from a very early age. Suvendhu’s garden is call the pathikrit (the one shows the path). This garden is right next to the village’s main road. We are hoping our model garden will show path to passers by.
Meet, Aswini the senior-most member of the group is a passionate man with a lot of enthusiasm for growing his own food. The 68-year young man has grown and experimented with all kinds of food. His experience and knowledge could not be put to the best of its use because of a lack of proper planning and management. He is going to play a key role in shaping our model gardens.
